A 15-year-old boy is in custody after allegedly shooting his mother and 17-year-old sister at an apartment complex in north Houston late Saturday night.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. at an apartment near Greens Road and Seminar Drive. Authorities say the teenager called 911, threatening to harm himself or others.
“When they arrived, they found out that the 15-year-old suspect had just eaten a bunch of edibles and I guess had a bad reaction to them,” said Lt. Horelica of the Houston Police Department.
Officers discovered the boy’s mother and sister with multiple gunshot wounds. Both were transported to the hospital in critical condition but have since been stabilized.
According to police, firefighters encountered the teen in the parking lot, where he allegedly pointed a firearm at them and claimed he had just killed someone. He then threw the weapon and fled on foot before being apprehended by officers nearby.
The suspect was also hospitalized and will be turned over to juvenile authorities once he recovers.
A 16-year-old sister was present in the apartment at the time of the shooting but was not injured.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
