A Baytown man is facing murder charges after authorities say he fatally shot his fiancé and attempted to stage the scene as a suicide.
Ty Vaughn, 31, was arrested in connection with the death of Luis David Banos, who was found with a gunshot wound to the face from a rifle on January 14.
According to court documents, Vaughn allegedly searched online for “Is it illegal to kill an illegal immigrant?” just hours before the shooting. Investigators say he later confirmed that Banos lacked legal status.
Authorities also stated that Vaughn moved Banos’ body after the murder, attempting to make the wound appear self-inflicted.
Vaughn’s bond was set at $500,000, and his next court appearance is scheduled for March 10.
