A Dallas man is facing charges after police say he chased a woman into her Uptown apartment complex and sexually assaulted her at her doorstep.
Incident Details
According to an arrest affidavit, the attack happened around 6 a.m. Monday in the 3100 block of Thomas Avenue. The victim had just left her apartment and was walking to her car when she locked eyes with 21-year-old Evin Bishop, a man she did not know but who lived nearby.
The woman immediately felt uneasy and, after turning back, saw Bishop staring at her.
The affidavit states that the woman said “no” to Bishop, sensing danger, but he nodded his head and started chasing her.
As she ran back to her apartment screaming for help, she struggled to unlock her front door. Bishop then grabbed her from behind and sexually assaulted her before fleeing the scene.
The attack was captured on the woman’s Ring camera, lasting about nine seconds, according to police.
Tracking Down the Suspect
Following the incident, Dallas police released photos of the suspect, prompting several anonymous tips.
Investigators learned that Bishop lived just 500 feet away at 588 Condos, an apartment complex where he stayed with his mother.
Surveillance footage showed Bishop leaving his building at 4:30 a.m. and returning shortly after the assault occurred.
Police arrested him Tuesday afternoon at his home. Video from the scene shows a large police presence as Bishop was taken into custody.
Investigation and Charges
Authorities have not determined whether Bishop knew the victim or if the attack was random. It remains unclear if he may be linked to other crimes in the area.
Bishop is currently charged with sexual assault and is being held at the Dallas County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
