Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of an elderly woman near the Third Ward area.
The incident occurred around 6:55 a.m. on Sunday, March 9, at 2200 Briley St.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim, a 74-year-old woman, as verification is pending with the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
According to the Houston Police Department, the woman was driving a brown Nissan Murano north on Briley when the vehicle veered off the roadway, crossed a ditch, and crashed into a group of trees on the west side of the street.
Emergency responders transported her to Ben Taub General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
No other vehicles or individuals were involved in the accident. The investigation remains ongoing.
