An early morning fire in North Harris County left an entire apartment building uninhabitable, displacing multiple families.
According to witnesses, the fire broke out just after 2 a.m. at The 910 Apartments, quickly spreading through the building. The flames, smoke, and water used to extinguish the fire affected a total of 37 units, with at least seven units sustaining direct fire damage. A neighboring building also lost power as a result.
“My building is fine. It’s still livable. But I can only imagine the people over there that don’t have anywhere to live and have to start over with nothing,” said resident Christi Capen. “At least they have their lives. That’s the most you could ask for, to have your life at the end of the night.”
Another resident, Jayce Alexander, added, “No power, no hot water. I have to go to my friend’s house to take a shower, do anything.”
Authorities have identified the suspect as 25-year-old Tyricen Hawthorne, who admitted to starting the fire. Neighbors reported that he set the blaze following an argument with his parents.
One person was hospitalized for smoke inhalation, and several vacant units in the building were also damaged. At least eight families have been displaced, with the American Red Cross stepping in to provide assistance.
Hawthorne remains in custody, with his bond set at $20,000. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
