Galveston County Jail is making a bold change in its inmate uniform policy, swapping traditional green jumpsuits for a new color—safety pink.
According to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, the switch is intended to serve multiple purposes:
- Discouraging Repeat Offenders: Officials believe the new color may deter inmates from returning to jail.
- Enhancing Safety: The bright pink uniforms improve visibility for corrections officers, making it easier to monitor inmates and identify potential threats.
- Promoting a Calming Environment: Pink is often associated with reducing aggression and helping to alleviate feelings of anger.
Inmates at the facility recently volunteered for a group photo, becoming the first to don the new jumpsuits. Officials say the initiative is part of broader efforts to maintain order and improve conditions within the jail.
