A devastating fire tore through an apartment complex in southwest Houston on Thursday, destroying 40 units and displacing over 100 residents. Firefighters battled for more than an hour to bring the multi-alarm fire under control.
What Happened?
- The fire broke out at 6525 Hillcroft Avenue, near Clarewood Drive, around 2 p.m.
- Firefighters arrived to find flames rapidly spreading from the first floor to the second.
- Windy conditions and the building’s older construction—lacking fire stops—allowed the fire to spread quickly.
- The blaze escalated to a three-alarm fire, with over 200 firefighters responding.
Extent of the Damage
- The front of the building was partially saved, but the backside suffered heavy damage due to wind-driven flames.
- A total of 40 apartment units were destroyed.
