A SWAT team and deputies from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in southwest Harris County after a man involved in a family dispute barricaded himself inside.
The incident occurred in the 13700 block of Sunmount Pines Drive, near Eldridge Parkway and Beechnut Street, shortly after 10 a.m.
According to Major Earl Dean with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the 33-year-old man assaulted his father during an argument. The father suffered injuries to his nose but is expected to be okay.
Deputies attempted to communicate with the suspect upon arrival, but he refused to come out and barricaded himself inside the residence.
A Crisis Negotiation Team spent several hours trying to persuade the man to surrender, with family members also attempting to talk him into coming out. When negotiations failed, a SWAT team was called to the scene.
After multiple unsuccessful attempts, deputies deployed tear gas, which eventually forced the suspect to exit the home and surrender. Officials confirmed that the man was not injured during the standoff.
Dean stated that the suspect will face charges of injury to the elderly and retaliation due to continued threats against his father.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
