A tragic shooting at a car wash in Forest Hill has claimed the lives of a North Texas rapper and his young daughter. The victims were gunned down in what police believe was a targeted attack.
Details of the Shooting
The incident occurred just before 11 a.m. on Monday at Slappy’s Express Car Wash on Forest Hill Drive. According to police, a 30-year-old man and a 5-year-old girl were in a wash bay when two men exited a four-door Kia and opened fire.
Responding officers attempted to save the victims, but they were pronounced dead at the scene. SKY 4 aerial footage captured dozens of evidence markers surrounding a maroon Challenger.
Authorities have identified one of the suspects and issued an arrest warrant, though they have yet to release the suspect’s name.
Victims Identified by Family
While police have not officially confirmed their identities, family members at the scene identified the victims as 30-year-old Chuckie Smith, known as North Texas rapper G$ Lil Ronnie, and his 5-year-old daughter.
“He was a rapper. He didn’t bother nobody. He didn’t target nobody. He was a family man, and he was going around rapping, okay. Why would you target him?” said Stella Houston, Smith’s aunt.
Houston shared that the little girl had just celebrated her birthday on Sunday.
“Cleaning the car out, and somebody came through shooting and killed him and the baby,” she said. “A baby. His baby. A baby!”
Eyewitness Accounts
Becky Johnson, who lives across the street from the car wash, heard the gunfire from inside her home.
“Six the first time, and then it was half a second, and I heard six more. Then a second later, I heard three,” she recalled.
She described seeing people fleeing for safety as customers at the car wash took cover behind their vehicles.
The car wash has since released a statement expressing its cooperation with law enforcement and announcing its temporary closure for at least two days.
Investigation and Community Impact
Police are still investigating the motive behind the attack. While one suspect has been identified, details on the second suspect remain unknown.
This shooting marks the fourth and fifth homicides in Forest Hill so far this year, a stark contrast to 2024, which saw zero murders. Just last month, two people were killed at a car dealership, and a separate incident resulted in a woman being fatally struck by a stray bullet in her backyard.
Authorities continue to seek leads in the case as the community mourns the devastating loss of a father and his young daughter.
