A year has passed since 18-year-old Jarvon Coles was fatally shot at a party in Humble, yet his family is still searching for answers. The shooting, which took place on Fieldwick Lane, remains unsolved as authorities have not identified a suspect.

A Promising Future Cut Short

Jarvon Coles was more than just a high school student—he was a talented football player at North Shore High School with aspirations to play at Lamar University. On the day of his tragic death, he had been celebrating his grandfather’s birthday with family, unaware that it would be the last time they would see him alive.

His mother, Britteny Coles, holds onto the memories of their final moments together.

“I have a video of him at the birthday party, and he was peeking around the corner, trying to hide his shirt. He said, ‘Mom, don’t video me, I have a stain on my shirt.’ And I said, ‘We don’t care about that!’ We all laughed, and that was the last video of him alive,” she recalled.

Jarvon’s grandfather, Braxton Coles, also remembers their last conversation.

“He told me he was leaving to go to the party. About 15 to 20 minutes later, I got an alert on my phone from my Ring camera and saw him walk out of the door. That was the last time.”

Chaos at the Party

More than 100 people were at the party when gunshots suddenly rang out from the back of the property. Guests ran for cover, but Jarvon never got back up.

Braxton received a distressing phone call about Jarvon having a seizure. When he arrived at the scene, he quickly realized it was something far worse.

“There were about 20 constables there, and I thought, ‘Wow, this is a lot for a seizure,’” he said. “I later found out he had been shot.”

A Year Without Answers

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office urged partygoers to come forward, but one year later, witnesses have remained silent. The darkness of the night and the panic that ensued made it difficult to identify the shooter.

“Somebody at the party knows something,” Braxton emphasized.

Despite his grief, Braxton remains steadfast in his pursuit of justice.

“If the person who did this was right in front of me right now, and it was up to me to decide whether that person lived or died, I would not choose for them to die. That won’t bring my grandson back.”

Turning Pain into Purpose

In honor of Jarvon’s memory, his family launched Crash Out for a Cause, a nonprofit dedicated to preventing gun violence and supporting youth in sports.

“We sponsor kids in youth football and basketball,” Braxton explained. “We’re also in the process of awarding three scholarships.”

Their mission is to create opportunities for young people while raising awareness about the devastating impact of gun violence.

Braxton also had a message for the shooter:

“I know it’s tough on you. I know it’s hard for you to sleep at night. You took something from us. Turn yourself in.”

How You Can Help

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office continues to seek information on Jarvon’s case. If you have any details, you are urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-843-TIPS or reach out to the Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100.

As the Coles family continues their fight for justice, they remain committed to honoring Jarvon’s legacy and ensuring his story inspires change.
