A North Texas couple has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty after authorities discovered nearly 90 animals living in squalid conditions inside their home in The Colony.
Arrests and Charges
On Tuesday, police arrested Brandy Bristol and Jeremy Bristol, charging each with 12 counts of animal cruelty, which are third-degree felonies. If convicted, they could face up to 10 years in prison for each charge.
Investigation and Animal Rescue
Earlier this month, The Colony Animal Services removed 88 animals from the couple’s home on Alta Oaks Lane. The rescued animals included 24 dogs, 45 cats, 12 reptiles, and seven mice. The conditions inside were described as some of the worst authorities had ever seen, with animals in nearly every room suffering from neglect.
Disturbing Court Revelations
During a court hearing, it was revealed that the couple’s own children reported the situation to authorities. Investigators found 21 dead cats in trash bags stored in the couple’s freezer. The court ultimately ruled that all the rescued animals, including six the couple had hoped to reclaim, would be placed in the custody of The Colony animal shelter and nonprofit animal welfare organizations.
