A 2-year-old girl is recovering at home after being caught in the crossfire of an apparent gang shootout in Far East Dallas. Police are searching for those responsible.
Surveillance Video Reveals Shootout
Footage from a gas station near St. Francis Avenue captures part of the violent exchange. Two men are seen firing from an apartment complex while another group shoots from across the street.
The shootout occurred Sunday night, with bullets striking vehicles, apartments, and ultimately, the young child.
Father Speaks Out
Sam Smith, the girl’s father, identified her as Aliyah Smith. He says the incident happened as she was bringing him dinner at the gas station where he works.
“She’s Daddy’s baby. She wanted to see her daddy,” Smith said. “That’s when all the chaos ensued.”
Aliyah’s mother quickly shielded her behind a car but later discovered she had been hit. The toddler was rushed to the hospital and has since been released.
Concerns for Safety
Smith now wants to move his family away from the area, fearing for their safety.
“It could’ve been a lot worse. A whole lot worse,” he said.
