Fat Tuesday falls on March 4, marking the final day of celebration before the Christian season of Lent begins. Also known as Mardi Gras, this festive day is traditionally celebrated with parades, parties, and feasting.
While Galveston hosts the nation’s second-largest Mardi Gras celebration, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the festivities in Houston without the large crowds. Here are some of the best places to celebrate:
Brennan’s of Houston
This Texas Creole restaurant is offering a three-course meal for $87 per person. The highlight? 25-cent martinis to complement the feast.
Pappadeaux
Pappadeaux is featuring a special Mardi Gras menu, including Rainbow Trout Mardi Gras, New Orleans-style BBQ shrimp, Mardi Gras cheesecake, and a signature Mardi Gras glass with every Swampthing cocktail order.
Belle Station
Enjoy Fat Tuesday with delicious food and drinks while painting. Two new chefs, Chef Bino and Chef Frank, will be serving New Orleans-inspired dishes like crawfish étouffée and deep-fried catfish topped with crawfish Creole sauce, served over buttered rice with smothered garlic green beans.
Social Junkie
Social Junkie is offering free crawfish and king cake, along with $2 hurricanes, $2 hand grenades, and $5 frozen drinks. Guests can also enjoy beads, masks, and other festive goodies.
Social Beer Garden
Starting at 3 p.m., Social Beer Garden will be serving fried chicken po’boys and king cake, with drink specials beginning at just $5.
The Woodlands Children’s Museum Mardi Gras Celebration
Families can enjoy Mardi Gras parades at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., with performances by the Woodlands Symphony Orchestra’s Brass Ensemble playing traditional New Orleans jazz and modern hip-hop. There will also be a Mardi Gras Boogie Bash at 11:00 a.m., face painting, and jester hat crafts for kids. The celebration includes a slice of Montgomery Bakehouse King Cake, with admission priced at $9 for adults and children over one year old.
Chapman and Kirby
Live music, crawfish, and drink specials will be featured at Chapman and Kirby’s Fat Tuesday celebration, making it a great place to enjoy the festivities.
No matter how you choose to celebrate, Houston has plenty of ways to indulge in the Mardi Gras spirit.
